Sounder

Set in 1930s Louisiana, the life of a loving family of sharecroppers is knocked upside down after the patriarch is accused of shoplifting. When her husband is sent to a labor camp, Rebecca (Cicely Tyson in an Oscar-nominated role) is forced to face what survival means for this family. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor (Paul Winfield) at the 45th Academy Awards.
